Jacob was terrified that He was in God’s presence. Terrified. “How awesome is this place!” he said. Awesome. We all know how stuff gets lost in translation. “Awesome” in our minds means, “How cool is that?!” But awesome for him means: a power and presence revealed so overwhelming it left him with one terrifying fact: God was here. For God’s presence vaporizes our false beliefs about Him. His presence has a singular purpose: to forgive our sins.
In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
It is, in fact, harder to forgive sins than to heal a body.
