Isaiah 30:15-17 Romans 8:31b-39 Luke 12:35-40 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Our God is contrary. He is contrary to our notions. Contrary to our wisdom so that God uses the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, And the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

Exodus 40:17-21, 34-38 Titus 3:4-7 John 1:1-14 In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Christ is the Light. The light is the truth. The truth shines on all mankind. Which is to say, Christ has died for all, leaving all in the light of the monolithic truth of His salvation. Yet people don’t know Him. For they are blind. They do see, they not receive Him, they do not learn from Him.
Isaiah 9:2-7 Titus 2:11-14 Luke 2:1-20 In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. The peace of God laid in a food distribution device. That is the sign of God’s eternal cease-fire on the sin of man. A baby, wrapped as though dead, like a mummy in grave clothes. Laid out to be eaten. It’s an appalling thought. It is God’s way.

Deuteronomy 18:15-19 Philippians 4:4-7 John 1:19-28 In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. You must change your way of thinking. You must rejoice. You must pray about all that makes you anxious, for you ought not be anxious for Christ has taken care of everything. You must be gracious, reasonable, forbearing with weakness and sin. And overall you must rejoice.

Isaiah 40:1-8 1 Corinthians 4:1-5 Matthew 11:1-10 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. We all fear judgement. We fear God’s judgement when we die and people’s judgement every day. Will the kids at school accept me or reject me? Will the bullies at work sneer at me again? Will the ladies at church accept me or snub me once more? Will my family members continue to treat me like they wished I wasn’t there? Judgement. It’s a word that has such negative connotations for us. We fear it. “Please, don’t judge me,” we say. Some claim they don’t even think about it. In confidence they act as though they’ve never thought twice about what people think of them. But even the confident or the blessedly ignorant hurt when people judge & reject them.
Malachi 4:1-6 Romans 15:4-13 Luke 21:25-36 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Creation waits in eager expectation waiting for the Sons of God to be revealed—God’s sons, His inheritors, you and I, regardless of our gender. For there is no male nor female in Christ with regards to salvation. In our salvation we are all equally inheritors of God. And creation longs for us to be revealed for what we are. So much so that the rocks will sing to praise Jesus if we will not and the skies poured forth speech the night He was born. Even now, creation groans longing to throw off the shackles of sin and its misery in the world. It waits for the Son of God to come, revealing Himself, and all who are His.
