Proverbs 25:6-14 Ephesians 4:1-6 Luke 14:1-11 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. |
One Sabbath day Our Lord gets invited to a family dinner after church. Remember though that the Sabbath for the Jews was Saturday, the seventh day of the week. That was the day when God had rested from all His work of creating. Six days He spoke things into existence. The seventh day He stopped, resting eternally from all His work of creating so that there is “nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). That means that all art and music, and technology is not a new creation out of nothing, but merely a rearrangement of things that God created.

1 Kings 17:17-24 Ephesians 3:13-21 Luke 7:11-17 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Have you lost heart? Death. Suffering. Wrong being done to you, especially by those who know better. All these cause us to lose heart. Huge disappointments. People who should know better acting in anger, pride, foolishness, ignorance or all above. It is a punch in the gut. Your stomach sinks. Your heart melts like wax. You lose heart. Your devotion withers. Your joy dies. It is replaced by weeping, anger, hurt, apathy and questions and fears you are too afraid to say out loud.
1 Kings 17:8-16 Galatians 5:25-6:10 Matthew 6:24-34 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Our Lord is talking about Natural Law. What do I mean by Natural Law? I mean those things which are obvious, so common, so constant, always present that we don’t even think about them. Things like your heart beating, your lungs breathing, the sun rising, and gravity. We only think about these things when either they don’t work the way they ALWAYS do, or when they present a problem for us because we are clumsy or want to sleep longer, etc., and we wish we were not bound by them any longer.
Proverbs 4:10-23 Galatians 5:16-24 Luke 17:11-19 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Leprosy. It is a contagious disease that deadens your nerves, allowing scratches to get infected and your flesh to rot without even realizing it. Prior to modern medicine the only way to deal with it was full quarantine. Thus, the ten lepers stood far off, quarantined. Cutoff. They cried to the Lord for mercy, as we do. Kyrie eleison. This cry for mercy in the Greek speaking world of Jesus’ day was usually made to those whom you know have the means to save you. It is, therefore, both a request and a profession of faith in the one to whom you lift your voice to.
