Exodus 3:1-14 2 Peter 1:16-21 Matthew 17:1-9 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. The Transfiguration. The metamorphosis of our Lord before their eyes. His epiphany to them of who He is. This is not a cleverly contrived legend. It is not an impressive story about mystical supernatural beings with super powers. No. This is based on the prophetic word spoken by the Old Testament prophets ages before. This is the fulfillment of those words. Thus, Peter’s eyewitness account merely builds on and confirms the witnesses of generations before.

2 Kings 5:1-15a Romans 12:16-21 Matthew 8:1-13 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Sometimes things get lost in translation. We heard St. Paul tell us to live in harmony with one another. And that’s not a bad translation, it is consistent with the context, but that’s not exactly what Paul was saying right at that moment. He was saying something more like, “Honour each other by holding a view of each others as wise, but do not do so just because someone is rich. Instead associate with the humble in spirit.”
Exodus 33:12-23 Romans 12:6-16 John 2:1-11 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. For the older ones here think back, think way back, while for the young ones here, think to quite recently or even toward future, when you first began dating a new person... How did you act? How would you act on a first date? Probably some version of your best behaviour, at least some version of what you think they’ll like, what they would think is cool.

Joshua 3:1-3, 7-8, 13-17 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 Matthew 3:13-17 In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Moses was chosen by God to set His people free from slavery in Egypt. A slavery to foreign gods, to unknown, wicked powers. And God used him to give His Law to His people, in order to set them apart, to call them apart from the nations of earth so that they should be a holy nation amongst the people’s of the earth. But under Moses the people wandered and languished in the desert. It was Joshua—the first bearer of the name of our saviour, Jesus—who brought them into the Promised Land. And just as He crossed the River Jordan to bring them in so must our saviour cross the Jordan, to lead us through it. So that on one side we are aimless wanderers with no home, no land to call our own. On the other side of the Jordan we are home. We are in a land that takes care of us, a resplendent Garden of Eden which flows with milk and honey.
